About Handbag Trends
Spring 2012 handbag trends are all about color, material, and details. From the use of mixed colors and patterns to eye-catching embellishments, you'll love how this season's bags will add pop to your wardrobe.
Color Block: Color Blocking is all about blocks or sections of contrasting yet complementary colors. The handbag collections this season will not only include more classic color blocking like black and white and different shades of brown together, but also more edgy combinations like red with orange and yellow with purple. Color block handbags are a great way to add eye-popping yet visually interesting color to your spring wardrobe.
Mixed Media: Like color blocking, mixed media is about combining different elements - except in this case we're referring to material. Mixed media handbags feature combinations of two or more materials and/or patterns like leather with fabric or animal print faux-leather with nylon. This use of different materials on one bag makes for a truly stand-out design that's sure to turn heads.
Details: A bag's details are like icing on a cake. They provide the finishing touches that complete the overall design. This season, details to watch out for include chain straps, top handles, and belts. Top handles are a carry-over trend from last season where messenger handbags with structured style were all the rage. You'll continue to see these flapover styles with top handles this spring. You will also see the return of chain straps which add bling to any bag. Finally, belted bags are making a comeback but while some belts are actually functional in cinching the bag, the trend now is to include a belt simply for appearance.
Textured Leather: Leather bags are timeless, but this season they are also trendy with the addition of texture. Woven, embossed, quilted, and perforated leather (and even faux-leather) are available this season on bags from designers and affordable brands alike. Combine texture with eye-popping bright or neon colors for a truly head-turning ensemble.
Other spring handbag trends to keep an eye out for: framed bags (structure) and brights and neons (bring color back to your wardrobe).
